Tina is an amazing teacher!
She has the perfect personality and skill set to host a sewing retreat! She knows a lot about altering patterns, was extremely helpful with fitting issues and very kind hearted. I love how she incorporated body positivity into the retreat. Sewing clothing that fits my body, instead of making do with store bought, has been a liberating experience for me and this retreat has been a great supplement to my sewing journey.
I also liked the addition of the Qoya classes to incorporate some physical movement and mindfulness into each day. It was fun to try something new!
I also got to experience Mackinac Island. I had never been there before and it’s such a unique and beautiful destination. The Murray hotel, which is where the retreat took place, was wonderful too.

Tina planned our days perfectly making schedule modifications if needed depending on weather and interests. She allowed us time to Immerse ourselves as much or as little as we wanted. I never felt rushed and she always gave clear concise instructions.
I have learned many valuable skills and confidence from creating my very own pattern to fit me perfectly And taking a core pattern and making adjustments to fit my unique body exactly. We then were able to modify our fit and flare core pattern to meet our own styles making it a princess seem to make or dress with pockets. Who knew that making modifications to the core pattern could be so much fun.

I felt truly lucky to be on the beautiful Mackinac Island learning garment making from Cal Patch. We were encouraged to embrace our own unique styles, and I walked away with the skills to create a dress pattern from scratch and a well-fitting dress that I love.
Tina Bury made sure every day felt special, from morning yoga classes to her parting gift of a hand-picked Petoskey Stone for each of us. Her joy and kindness shined bright. She can’t schedule the next retreat soon enough!
